I create art because I love that I can make a beautiful piece starting with nothing. I find it very satisfying to see a completed piece and know that it is my own creation that began from my own imagination. I usually like to draw things that are personal to me or that I have a connection with because I find them more meaningful and fun to draw. For example, I am currently drawing snow globes that I have collected since I was a child from different places I have traveled. Another reason why I like drawing things that are personal to me is because I can bring attention to random objects or details that people don’t generally pay attention to, but I see every day. Before beginning a piece I like to take my own reference pictures so I can have everything exactly the way it is in my imagination. After that I look at the images and figure out what shapes, figures, lines, and colors I see and sketch them with pencil. Then I see how the light hits objects, the different planes present in the image, dimension, textures, and distance, and use color to portray them. My favorite medium is colored pencil because I love how you can build up color and texture by layering pigments. I also find them easy to blend and control and I find it very relaxing to do the same repetitive action of shading. Colored pencil also gives clean edges and an even surface which I really like in my art. As I continue making art, I hope to grow and become a better artist and tune my skills even further, and also share the joy I find when creating art with others.
