For this piece I chose to do a banana blossom because my grandparents used to farm and they have a lot of land in India, and they have a banana plantation. I have visited it when i was younger, and I really wanted something that represented that part of my family and also India's nature. In India, all parts of the banana plant are used. The bananas are obviously eaten, but so are the flowers, the stems, and the leaves are often used as plates, especially in the olden days since they are so large. I also really liked the vibrant colors of this piece and the textures and lines in the image. I chose to do prisma color so that I could develop this texture.
I began by sketching out the blossom and the bigger leaves. I then went back and added the base values for the blossom, and kept going back in layers to develop the color the way I wanted, and I did the same for the leaves as well. A challenge in this pieces was drawing all the leaves without them blending into each other since they are all green. I had to use many different shades of green, but in a way that they would still go together. Since there is a lot of repetition in the piece, I also felt like I had to do a really good job so that it would still look interesting
Overall I'm very happy with the way the piece turned out because the colors look really vibrant and I think its an accurate representation of the picture and of the plantation. However, I wish I had had more time so I could have made it bigger, since this is only a 5x7. I do like that I was able to cover the entire page and I think I used the space well. I think this was a good last concentration piece and I feel like I have covered a wide variety of things in my concentration.
