For this project, my two top choices were an office supply box and Russian nesting dolls. Although I liked the perspective of the box, I wanted to do something very different from my first interior spaces project, so I chose to do the dolls because they had very vibrant colors and unique shapes. I really like how I was able to develop the colors in the doll, but I was a little rushed for time so I burnished it a little too soon, and didn't get to develop as much value as I wish I had. I really liked the highlights on the doll to the right, and wished I had incorporated more of that into my piece. I also like the background color I chose because it's a pleasant color that contrasts well with the subject without drawing away attention.
I used PrismaColor because it allowed me to build up the drawing in layers. I was also able to add in fine details and blend color well because of the medium. The only thing I didn't like about the PrismaColor was that it became a little waxy, especially with the more saturated colors.
One of my main struggles with this piece was sketching the shapes to begin with. I've never drawn anything like this, and a lot of my colored pencil pieces have more straight or geometric shapes, so I found it challenging to draw the dolls with the correct proportions. However, I think I was able to figure it out and I liked the way it came out in the end. I also had a really difficult time figuring out how to develop the wood grain and color in the dolls, because it is very subtle but also glossy.
