This is my final Rousseau inspired painting. I think it shows Rousseau's style through its vivid colors and simplicity. Here are some of his pieces for comparison:
1. Who was your referenced artist for the painting? Name 4 main ideas you used from your research to create your painting.
Name- Henri Rousseau
2. Describe the craftsmanship of your painting. (Is it neat and well executed?)
My piece is neat and well executed. I had a good composition, and made sure that each aspect of my piece flowed together while still being distinct and different from one another. I used a variety of colors, showed texture, and portrayed my picture in the style of my artist.
3. What was the most difficult part of this project?
The most difficult part of this project was doing the trees in the background because I wanted to imitate rousseau’s style, showing individual leaves in an unrealistic way, but still wanted to stay true to the photograph, and show the dense, bushy trees.
4. Describe your color choices and how they reflect the work of your chosen artist.
Rousseau used vivid, bright colors, and I did too. I incorporated bright oranges and pinks into the pathway that was originally a dull brownish red, I used a brighter green instead of the deep dark green seen in the photograph, and brightened the piece and showed contrast overall.
5. Describe how the style of your landscape reflects your chosen artist.
My piece is simplistic and childlike much like Rousseau’s pieces. It pays less attention to detail and focuses more on shapes, concepts, texture, and color. It uses bright, almost unrealistic colors and does not show much perspective, which reflects his style.
6. What do you think your chosen artist would say if he or she could see your painting today?
If Rousseau saw this piece today, I think he would appreciate my composition and use of texture, but might wish there was more contrast and brighter colors.
7. What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
If I were to do this project again, I would have added more leaves to the trees and made the colors contrast more than they do now and be more vivid. I would have also made the brick pathway more defined and brightly colored to bring contrast to the piece.
