For this concentration piece, I chose to do a picture of someone ringing a bell. In India, all the temples have bells like that that you can ring when you walk in. I also wanted to add mehendi (henna) on the hand because that is an important part of Indian culture and the way that we dress. I also included bangles and the border of a saree (Indian dress) to further show our culture.
I started off by sketching, and then I used browns and yellows to create and bronzed look for the bell. It wasn't too difficult to create the color, but it did take a while to create a metallic texture. After that I went back and did the border of the saree and the bangles. The hardest part was the skin for me. There aren't any colored pencils that are close to my skin color, so I had to blend a lot of different colors together, and it was difficult to blend so many colors without it getting too waxy or having a weird texture. It took me a really long time because I had to figure out how to create my skin tone and spent a long time practicing.
